In the 1920s, medicines were still delivered to pharmacies by horse-drawn carriage. At the company’s headquarters on Pinninkatu in Tampere, two horses were kept and cared for by Väinö Järvelin, who dedicated an impressive 55-year career to Tampereen Rohdos.
It is said that Järvelin trained the famously temperamental horse Sirkka to perform a range of useful skills and tasks. For example, when he told Sirkka not to let anyone into the warehouse, she took the command seriously – refusing entry even to the managing director.
Over time, medicine deliveries transitioned to more modern modes of transport: cars, trucks, ships, and aeroplanes. In the photograph from the 1930s, products have just arrived for distribution via a Bayer aircraft.
